The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Nanotechnology Platform" enables state-of-the-art research institutes related to nanotechnology to jointly establish a nationwide information- and resource-sharing system and provide diverse opportunities for industry, academia, and government researchers. This platform is composed of implementing agencies and leading institutes that share resources externally according to three basic technology areas rooted in nanotechnology research: advanced characterization nanotechnology, nanofabrication, and molecule/material synthesis.

 Nagoya University has been selected to support these three technical areas, and the High Voltage Electron Microscope Laboratory will be widely used externally as an "advanced characterization nanotechnology platform." Research support includes crystal structure analysis; elemental analysis; electronic state analysis; and microscopic electromagnetic field analysis of metals, ceramics, and organic thin films, using state-of-the-art electron microscopes such as high-voltage scanning transmission electron microscopes. We provide support beginning with the preparation of samples for observation. We also assist with morphological and molecular studies of biological samples using an electron microscope equipped with a low-temperature stage. Our faculty members are available for consultation on data analysis and experimental setup.
Emergency support for universities, public institutions, companies affected by an earthquake or water disaster

We sincerely express our sympathies to everyone who was affected by a disaster such as the Typhoon Hagibis (2019) and the ensuing heavy rains. In recent years, many earthquakes and water disasters have occurred. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Nanotechnology Platform provides emergency support for various research and development activities to affected universities, public institutions, and companies. In 1965, Japan's first 500,000 volt electron microscope was installed at the School of Science. This was followed by a 1,000,000 volt electron microscope installed at the School of Engineering in 1972 and a 1,250,000 volt ultra-high voltage electron microscope in 1982. We continually engage in research and development using the latest equipment and technology.
